One of the most common fitness questions is also one of the simplest: "How many times per week should I work out?"

The answer may surprise you.

There isn't one perfect number that works for everyone. Your ideal workout schedule depends on your goals, lifestyle, fitness level, and personal preferences. The good news? You don't have to work out every day to see results.

Start With What You Can Sustain

One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to do too much too soon.

It's easy to feel motivated at the beginning of a new fitness journey and commit to working out six or seven days a week. Unfortunately, that level of commitment can quickly become overwhelming.

Instead, focus on creating a routine you can realistically maintain.

Consistency will always produce better long-term results than short bursts of extreme effort.

If You Work Out 2 Days Per Week

Two workouts per week can still provide meaningful benefits.

This schedule is a great starting point for beginners or those with busy schedules. Regular movement can improve energy levels, boost mood, support overall health, and help establish healthy habits.

Remember: something is always better than nothing.

If You Work Out 3-4 Days Per Week

For many adults, three to four workouts per week is a sweet spot.

This schedule provides enough activity to improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and overall health while still allowing plenty of time for recovery.

It's often a realistic and sustainable balance for people juggling work, family, and other responsibilities.

If You Work Out 5+ Days Per Week

More frequent exercise can be beneficial for those who enjoy being active and have the time to commit to it.

However, more isn't always better.

Rest and recovery are essential parts of any fitness routine. Your body needs time to repair, rebuild, and adapt to the work you're doing.

The goal isn't to exercise as much as possible, it's to exercise consistently.

Quality Over Quantity

Rather than focusing solely on the number of workouts each week, consider the quality of those workouts. A well-planned three-day routine often delivers better results than an inconsistent six-day routine. The best workout schedule is one that helps you stay active, healthy, and motivated over the long term.

Fitness isn't one-size-fits-all.

Some people love attending multiple classes each week. Others prefer a couple of workouts combined with walks, stretching, or other forms of movement.

The key is finding activities you enjoy and creating a routine that fits your life.

At MVP, we encourage members to focus on progress, not perfection. Whether you're attending two classes a week or five, every workout is a step toward a healthier, stronger version of yourself. Because the best fitness routine is the one you'll actually stick with.
